    The Internet is a wonderful tool which allows you do things such as shopping, browsing and search for just about anything you may be looking for. However, in the same way that we use it as a tool to get many things done, so do identity theft thieves, hackers, and spammers. The difference is that these miscreants whose sole purpose is to steal and highjack your computer from you will stop at nothing until they do. The reason for this is simple; they in turn get all your personal credit card and banking information, passwords and even the sites you visit. Many hackers will even use your PC as a gateway to other crimes by hiding themselves within your system and sending out spam, committing credit card fraud and much more.

    If you regularly use the Internet to shop or simply just to browse you need to be sure your computer is protected against the many dangers out there in cyberspace. There are hundreds of sites who look legitimate but are actually full of spy-ware and viruses and end up leading you to programs that contain malware. If you use software such as P2P like Ares or Limewire then you are in for a big surprise. About 70% of these programs you download actually contain Trojan horse viruses. A Trojan horse virus is one that comes within a legitimate program and will install itself along with the program. Most of the time you will not even be aware of it until it is too late. If you do not have a Firewall running on your PC or Laptop, then chances are each time you browse the Internet hackers, thieves and spammers are sending ‘pings’ to your computer in order to know if you have security and then infiltrate it. It is almost impossible to know when this is happening without a program to detect, warn and stop it from happening. There are other countless of programs that you may download which seem innocent enough. Yet most of these programs contain Spy-ware. The sole purpose for this software is to log and record all the information on all of the pages you visit all day. This means that whatever site you visit, they will know and sell that information to others. This is the reason so many of us get so much spam each day. Most of that spam comes via the spy-ware found on many computers. It is sort of a backdoor way for them to know what to advertise to you but obtaining that information while invading your privacy. If you have a PC or laptop you need to protect it as it is the gateway to all your personal information.

    Luckily for us there are many programs out there which are good while there are others which are great! A great Internet security program will not only protect your computer from anti-virus and anti-spyware but will also offer you Firewall, email, identity protection and IM security along with parental controls as well. One program I have been using for quite a while offers all of these features plus many more. I highly recommend it for its simple to use interface as well the extra sense of security it provides. If you are surfing, shopping or simply browsing online without your computer protected, then I implore you to look into safeguarding the key to the door of your PC. Not having a Great Internet security program installed on your computer is like sleeping with your front door wide open. We all know no one would ever do that right? Protect yourself by protecting your computer today!

    It all depends on what you want. Some offer Pro versions which have no ads or pop-ups. But do be cautious with most of the free music download software, they will have adware, spyware and pop-ups.

    These programs are free… but they have some problems.
    Basically, the difference between free file-sharing programs and file-sharing programs that you pay for is as follows. With the pay programs such as Mp3 Advance, MP3 Music Subscription and DownloadShield, you get technical support, no pop ups, no adware or spyware, most offer privacy protection, and your money back if you’re not happy with the program.

    With the totally free music download programs, unless you buy their Pro version, which some of them are more expensive than the pay programs mentioned above, you’re pretty much on your own along with the ads and pop ups and don’t forget the spyware. It’s your choice.

  • The Long Awaited Turnaround – Barnes & Nobles Nook

    Nook owners now have the option of installing Nook’s 1.2 upgrade. Users that have done so already are sighing with relief as the upgrade is meeting expectations. There are still some complaints about highlighting, but it looks as though the book store giant is honing its e-reader.

    The Nook hit the market in December of 2009, but unfortunately to negative reviews. There were complaints of slow touch screen response. Additionally, users complained about pages refreshing just as slowly. The 1.2 software upgrade has improved on both of these issues, and the UI on the Nook has been updated to add three dimensional buttons for the screen navigation. The cursor response has improved as well.

    There ares still a few remaining complaints, though. For instance, some users continue to experience a bit of frustration when attempting to highlight items. The buttons which are displayed in a circle, are small and hard to tap. The Nook also doesn’t synchronize bookmarks, highlights, or notes with other versions of the Barnes & Noble eReader apps. Despite these negatives, the Nook’s popularity remains, and the ebook reader can be purchased in Barnes & Noble stores this week.

    The Nook is the Kindle 2′s competitor, and fights fiercely. It has a color touch screen-3.5 TFT Color LCD, touch control and navigation. Nook users can view book covers in the library. It is shorter and narrower than the Kindle, but an ounce heavier. The book store giant offers Nook users over 500,000 free titles and exclusive content like free e-books and promotional offers.

    Really unique, the Barnes & Noble’s Nook offers the “LendMe” technology which enables the user to lend e-books to others for up to 14 days. Only certain titles apply, and the books can only be lent once. Once the owner allows someone else to use a book from his own collection however, he won’t be able to access that title for the 14-day period. The person receiving the book doesn’t need a Nook, but he would need to download the free eReader software from Barnes & Noble. This software works on platforms such as iPhone, iPod touch, PC and Mac OS. More platform availability is reportedly on the way.

    The Nook has hit the market with strength, and with the latest software upgrades, it seems as though the Kindle has a strong competitor, not only in looks but in functionality as well.

Yet most of these files all contain what is called a Trojan horse virus. They are actually a virus or spyware discretely placed within the software to avoid being detected by you or your computer. Once you have installed the program or run the file, it will run secretly on your PC each and every time you turn it on. It is very easy to install these files but it can be almost impossible to remove them. There are programs that will immediately inform you, stop, quarantine and delete a file or program with a Trojan horse virus the minute you try to install it or open it. If you regularly download files from the Internet it is highly recommended that you have one of these programs in place to protect you.

    If you feel that your computer may have already been infected then there are programs available that can scan your PC for free to determine if it is or not. There are also some very good software programs available which can detect and remove the virus from your registry which is their favorite place to hide and hardest to remove from. Finally you can add an internet security program that comes bundled with firewall, IM security, Identity theft, email and Spy site blocking protection. It is recommended that you install Internet security software first before running or installing anything else on your computer. You will also get a program to help you protect your computer from ever getting a virus again. Remember that using a computer without Internet security protection is like leaving all your personal information posted in your front door and leaving it there for all to see.   • Free Models From the Web – Spacecraft Paper Modeling

    In a previous article, I discussed how I discovered the wonderful world of paper (or card) models available for download. You simply download a graphic file, print it on your inkjet printer and assemble with glue. While this medium will never replace plastic models, there is a lot to say for a model format that offers you unlimited replacement parts, scale adjustability, and usually is, well, free.

    If you love space ships, as I do, there is a great variety of space models free for download. Whether you want a model based on a move, TV show or reality, you can probably find it. Currell Graphics features models of the (pre-spaceage) V-2 rocket from WWII and the SpaceShipOne. The Lower Hudson Valley Paper Model features some great models of NASA craft in their “Real Space” section, including several versions of the Space Shuttle, the upcoming Ares moon craft and even a 4 foot tall Saturn V Apollo rocket.

    You’ll find many card model available based on spaceships of movies and TV. An easy starter would be Erwin de Jong’s saucer from “The Day the Earth Stood Still” at Cut & Paste Sci-Fi. A fairly new model on the web is a very detailed version of the Discovery from 2001: A Space Odyssey that is several feet long when finished. Battlestar Gallactia (both versions) are well covered, as are several other popular and less well-known shows. My last count was at least 40 downloadable models available depicting “Star Wars” craft, from a small and simple Tie Fighter to a very detailed At-At walker. The “Star Trek” franchise takes the ribbon for the most free model downloads on the web. I’ve documented about 100 and I’m sure there are many more around.

    Constructing space models in paper is basically the same as building other card models. The trickiest part tends to be in matching the joints of cylindrical hull sections. I like to complete each section, dry it and fit the next section to the previous one. And while many card model files include bases, I almost always prefer to suspend them by nylon thread from the ceiling. You can poke holes along the hull during assembly and embed buttons inside with the thread tied to it. Doing this in 2 places along the length allows 2 contact points for the string for easy leveling. An easier method is to simply locate the center of gravity of the finished model and tie the thread around that section of the fuselage. Transparent thread will be basically invisible.

    A couple of good places to start looking for free space-oriented card models are Free Paper Toys and The Lower Hudson Valley Paper Model Giftshop.

  • Organization – Done Your Way

Are you stumped or intimidated when you think about doing something about it? Over the past few months I’ve helped many clients create structures and systems for their lives and businesses.

    It’s perfect for the non-system-y people. Creatives. Right-brainers. Fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants kind of folk. And it’s been fun, too. I’ve found five key questions to help my clients create the structure that works for them. The questions are simple, and your thoughtful answers are all that you need. You can use this for work, life in general, or your business. Here we go.

    1. What’s not working? Where are you overwhelmed or disorganized? What needs more structure, a system, or some organization?

    2. If you could define your ideal end state or solution or result, how would it look? Make it up if you have to–it doesn’t have to be real and you don’t need to know how to do it yet.

    3. What is a system or structure or method of organization that you use now that works well? It can be anything–it doesn’t have to be related to this current problem. What about this system/structure/method makes it work? Is there a “secret sauce?” How did you come up with this system/structure/method?

    4. What else in your life, anything at all, works well? (Really, it can be anything!) Why does it work? Was it always that way? Is there a “secret sauce?” For a moment, tap into that feeling of this thing that “just works” in your life. Remember that feeling.

    5. Consider the “secret sauce” from #3 and #4. Consider what makes those ares of your life work. Tap into the feeling from #4. Using these things, create your solution to #1 so it fits your design as stated in #2.

    Brainstorm. Dream. Imagine. Enlist help.

    This last step is where you create something that works for you. Magic happens when you engage with others. Remember, all you need is the answers lie in #2, #3, and #4 from above and a little creativity. Once you find a solution, run through it in your mind, checking to see if you forgot anything. Once you’ve created your system, take baby steps toward implementation.

  • How To Put Videos On PSP In 4 Simple Steps

    The first thing that stops most people from finding out how to put videos on PSP is they don’t have enough free memory-You are going to need to buy as big a memory stick as you can afford-512mb is going to be the bare minimum here.

    The second essential is to have a computer handy which you can link to the PSP via a USB cable. An internet connection will be useful too, but is not essential unless there are things you need to download.

    1-Connect the computer and the PSP together, making sure that the PSP is switched off to begin with, and switch the PSP on once the connection is made.

    2-With the PSP go into the SETTINGS menu, and press X, which should link the PSP to the computer. If you then go into MY COMPUTER on the computer, you should see an extra volume has been attached. This is the PSP/Playstation Portable.

    3-Open the PSP memory card and then open the folder called PSP. With this open you need to create another folder inside that one, this one called “MP_ROOT” and then another one called “100mnv01″

    4-Save the movies you want to watch in the folder “100mnv01″ and then you are ready to rock! The movies can be started by clicking on the saved image inside the memory card. One thing to note though is that the movies need to be in MP4 format (Google it), and if you want to convert your existing DVDs etc to this format you may want to get some specialized software.
